When FedEx knocked on my door Thursday, I was thrilled to see 2 HUGE boxes full of Nutrisystem food! It took a while to organize and put everything away… but worth it! By the time I was finished I had a pantry & freezer full of healthy options for breakfast, lunch, dinner & dessert. Yes, I said it…dessert! Eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to give up some of your favorite desserts!
When I first was approached my Nutrisystem I was 162, but accord to the scale on Friday morning I was 161.4… so that is my starting weight. My goal weight is 132. I have 29.6 lbs to lose! From past experience I have learned that I do best with short term goals (and keep the main goal in the back of my mind). I know I can’t lose 30 lbs in one week… but hopefully by my 37th birthday in September I will be at my goal weight. My first goal is to get under 160 lbs.

Yeah! I lost 1.2 lbs this week! I am so close to getting under 160 lbs! NEXT WEEK!!!!
First of all I have to say I love the Nutrisystem App for my android. It allows me to connect & share at anytime, any where. I don’t have to write it down (but I could if I wanted to since they sent a great planner/tracker). I don’t have to wait until I get home, turn on the computer, and sign in… NO I have my mobile device on me at all times, so I can keep track and stick to my plan.
After a few days I realized I didn’t know how many calories I should be consuming each day. The Nutrisystem App shows me how many calories I’ve consumed and when I exercise it shows my how many I have used up… but it didn’t tell me when to STOP eating! According to a Nutrisystem employee via their online chat I was told: The Nutrisystem Women’s Programs provide an average of 1250 calories per day for those that have less than 100 pounds to lose. If you have over 100 lbs to lose, your daily food intake needs to be somewhat higher on the Nutrisystem Success Program and you will take in about 1450 calories per day. If you fall into this category, please make sure to add one SmartCarb to your breakfast and one PowerFuel to your lunch everyday.
Personally I feel 1250 calories is way too low for an active person. If you Google weight loss and calorie intake you will find many different opinions and answers to the question… but based on what my body is telling me I need more fuel. I was able to confirm with a Nutrisystem Dietician that “On the days that your workouts are very intensive and in excess of an hour it is possible that you might need to add some extra calories. To determine if you do need some extra calories ask yourself if you are experiencing any of the following: hunger, drop in energy levels, light headedness or dizziness, headaches. If not you may still be fine based on the duration and intensity level of your workouts. If you find that you are having some problems then you might want to add some extra calories only on the days of your workouts. Here is what we suggest: A snack in the form of a Powerfuel or SmartCarb serving. This can be consumed before or after the workout depending on your preference. Above all, listen to your body. You will need to find what works for you.” Plus they sent me a list of extended grocery food additions to help me choose the right foods to supplement my program.
Besides making healthy choices in my foods (thanks to Nutrisystem), I am exercising. Some people think exercise is a BAD WORD. Don’t fear exercise! It’s just movement! You can dance, run, walk, swim, hike, play ball with your kids, etc. Exercise is anything that gets your heart rate up! Nutrisystem recommends 30 minutes a day. For the past 3 weeks my husband and I have been going to the track at the high school and walking/running 2 miles 3x’s a week. I also walk with my kids on the days I don’t work out with my husband and/or do strengthening at home (stretches, lunges, planks, etc).
Tip of the Week: After you heat up your meal, put it on a real plate… it makes the meal feel homemade.
Next week will be challenging… we are heading to Legoland, camping, 4th of July… oh my! So what am I going to do? I am going to bring my Nutrisystem meals with me and keep active! Planning, pre-portioning, and being prepared will help me maintain control during my vacation & holiday!
