There is something surreal about walking on the red carpet.
On Monday night, I joined the stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Sterling K. Brown, Martin Freeman, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis, along with writer/director Ryan Coogler and producer Kevin Feige for a walk down the red carpet for the world premiere of Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther.”
This was my 5th time walking on the red carpet, and let me tell you, it will NEVER lose it’s magic! The red carpet is a place were the stars mingle…fans scream and cheer (and if they are really lucky they can take a photo with the stars or get an autograph)…and thousands of photos are taken.
Marvel set up a regal red carpet fit for the King of Wakanda…well a purple carpet. That’s right, the carpet was a deep purple. At the entrance, was the black panther…the entrance to Wakanda!
The stars would stop for fans and press as they made their way down the purple carpet. As part of the Disney press, I was able to walk down with them (of course I was behind a rope…but a little rope separated me and so many talented people). When my foot hit the carpet, I saw the one and only Angela Bassett. She walked with grace and beauty. Her golden fringe outfit was fun and flirty. She enticed people to want to move and dance. Her smile lit up the carpet!
I passed more stars as I continued walking…only to spy Christopher Walken and Storm Reid (Wrinkle in Time ~ in theaters on 3/19). Storm was gracious enough to stop and take a selfie with me!!!!!
After enjoying my time on the purple carpet, I entered the next phase of my dream-like evening. I got to watch Marvel’s “Black Panther” with the cast and many other stars. The only sad thing is they took our phones before entering the theater (which honestly is great for the stars, they can watch a movie without being bombarded by fans asking for selfies).
Before the movie started, the cast joined Ryan Coogler, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Nate Moore on stage. The audience cheered and applauded for this extremely talented cast…plus a standing ovation for the beautiful Angela Bassett.
This was the first time EVER that the movie has been played for an audience. I was one of the lucky few to see it for the first time…including the cast!!! What an honor it was to see this movie…I can’t wait to tell you all about it…but you will have to wait until next week. Keep your eyes on my blog and follow the hashtag #BlackPantherEvent to find out what we all thought about this movie (reviews coming 2/6).
