The Truth About You & Me
Madelyn Hawkins is super smart. At sixteen, she’s so gifted that she can attend college through a special program at her high school. On her first day, she meets Bennet. He’s cute, funny, and kind. He understands Madelyn and what she’s endured—and missed out on—in order to excel academically and please her parents. Now, for the first time in her life, she’s falling in love. There’s only one problem. Bennet is Madelyn’s college professor, and he thinks she’s eighteen—because she hasn’t told him the truth. The story of their forbidden romance is told in letters that Madelyn writes to Bennet—both a heart-searing ode to their ill-fated love and an apology.
Yep, you read it right! Crazy hah? I was super excited to tap into this book and just dying to see what would happen!
Would he find out?
How would he react?
Is this chick crazy?
The book is written in letters to Bennet from Madelyn and “them”– whoever else gets a hold of the letter (her parents, the authorities). It is impossible not to build a connection with Madelyn, she pours her heart out recounting every detail of the time she spent with Bennett…her teacher….who thinks she is 18 but really she is only 16…and he is 26!!!!!. Her purpose is to tell Bennet her side of the story and why she did what she did. She wants him to know how she truly feels about him and how it killed her not to tell him the truth from the beginning.
You know this story is doomed from the start. It is impossible to have a happy ending… right? I was surprised by how the book ended. It left me satisfied and wanting more.
You will love this quick read. It is a bittersweet love story that shows us the brutal consequences to our actions.
