I joined a few bloggers on a phone interview with Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias last Monday, 7/21.
We got “FLUFFY” about his new movie –>
THE FLUFFY MOVIE captures worldwide comic phenomenon Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias in never-before-seen footage from his sold-out “Unity Through Laughter” tour. Spanning over 23 countries, and more than 400 cities, this is the summer’s must-see big screen comedy event.
Since Gabriel had coined the phrase “fluffy” I had to ask him if he was feeling a little fluffy this afternoon. He was quick to respond, “You know what, not too bad. I haven’t had lunch yet, so I am not as fluffy as I could potential be right now. They are feeding me Biscoff cookies and they are freaking amazing and I shouldn’t be eating them.” I read somewhere that he really loved cake… and a reader even wanted to know who makes the best chocolate cake… but when I heard him talking about the cookies I had to ask him if they were as good as cake??? Gabriel told us, “You know I actually like cookies more than cake. Cake is over rated now. You know after you have 3000 your pretty much done.” We all laughed and continued on the cake discussion. Gabriel mentioned that he never got sick from eating cake, but did get sick of eating too much cake (which I am sure we all can relate to). However, he once was given a Space Cake as a surprise. We didn’t know what a Space Cake was… so he educated us… it’s a cake laced with marijuana! OMG! Then he told us that you were only supposed to eat a little bit of it… so I am wondering if he ate the whole cake before he knew of the ingredients??? That will be a question for another day. He did say, “There is an entire day of my life missing somewhere.”
Why go see The Fluffy Movie?
Gabriel is very proud of this movie and he put a lot of passion into it. He said, “First of all it’s a, first ever non-rated R kind of comedy concert film. It’s a film you can take the entire family to. It’s about family. It’s very relatable. It’s more than just stand up, it’s like a one man show.”
Best Parenting Tip
Gabriel believes that “you can embarrass your kids and get so much further than hitting them or yelling at them.” Image is everything. “It’s all about image. if you make fun of them in front of their friends that’s the worst thing you can do as far as getting their attention. every chance I get to make fun of them in public makes them pay that much more attention to when I tell them things at home.”
Becoming a parent has changed Gabriel a lot. He was telling us that he feels like being a Dad has made him grow up and appreciate more. He said, “I see how my son views things and I’m like “Wow, I hope I wasn’t like that.’…I didn’t understand life until I had to be responsible for one.” Like many parents, it takes having kids to truly understand how important and precious life is. I know I have changed since having children.
When promoting this movie, Gabriel’s family almost fell apart. “My family is understanding, but those things when you are not getting any sleep, you are not spending time with them, it can become a little unnerving. A lot of people don’t see that. People think, “Oh you just go out there and make people laugh, make money. That’s great!’ But you don’t understand that there’s people at home that need that time as well. Right now it’s been really really rough for the home life and fortunately we kept it together. All I ask of my family, especially my woman, is just give me until the end of the movie and I promise things will get better… let me get through this and she has been very, very supportive.” It can’t be easy for them during this process, but I am sure now that the movie is out things will start getting easier.
Gabriel is now focusing on projects that are more relatable to families.
How did you discover that you were good at impersonations and using your voice for voice acting?
Gabriel has been doing voices since he was 10 years old. He said, “I was always doing cartoon characters and mimicking stuff that I saw on TV. That to me was the best. I liked doing the characters in class and was real silly as a kid.” I can only imagine sitting next to Gabriel in class. I doubt I would be able to stifle my laugh. He had us all giggling through out our 28 minute interview… so all day in class with him would be hysterical!
When Gabriel starting doing stand up he incorporated his impersonations into his act. He continued telling us, “It just was a natural progression to get into actual voice over work. It’s real easy and I mean I enjoyed doing it almost as much as stand up because it’s quick and it’s fun. You’re in, you’re out and you can knock out an entire movie in two days. It’s amazing! It took me 6 weeks to do the movie Magic Mike but in two days I did the movie Planes. And got paid the same.”
