Awkward… I know… young love! Do you remember your “first time”? It may not have been the joyous event you hoped it would have been… but remember… nervous is NORMAL! Falling in love for the first time. Wondering, anticipating, dreaming of the perfect moment. But like life, some things are just NOT perfect.
Dave (O’Brien) is a high school senior who spends most of his time pining away over a girl he can’t have. Aubrey (Robertson), a junior with artistic aspirations, has a hot boyfriend who doesn’t quite understand her or seem to care. Dave and Aubrey meet one night at a party. A casual conversation sparks an instant connection, and, over the course of a weekend, things turn magical, romantic, complicated and funny as Aubrey and Dave discover what it’s like to fall in love for the first time. Director/screenwriter Jonathan Kasdan skillfully captures a moment of adolescence that rings resolutely true.
My husband and I loved THE FIRST TIME. It was a wonderfully, romantic movie. It only takes a moment for the two young teenagers to meet. You can feel the instant attraction between Dave (Dylan O’Brien) and Aubrey (Britt Robertson). During the movie you are hoping the two will end up together! Knowing that Jane (Victoria Justice) will never see Dave as anything more than a friend, you hope that Dave will see the truth and pursue Aubrey. But Aubrey has a “dude”… of course! And that “dude” is a DUD! UGH!
Watching the relationships unravel and new relationships form reminds me of high school. As a teenager, you think you know it all (or at least act like you know it all), when in reality life is just beginning.
