Kansas City, Kansas – January 9, 2014 – SwimZip sun protective swimwear is delivering “Zip on sun protective swimsuits that are adorable and affordable for kids” to ABC’s hit show Shark Tank. Company founders and siblings, Betsy Johnson and Berry Wanless will pitch their business to the “Shark Tank” investors on Friday, January 24th in the hopes of securing capital to expand their growing venture kids swimwear.
“We have a passion to keep kids sun safe! Having skin cancer myself I am on a mission to keep kids sun safe and would love to see our sun protective swimwear line on kids throughout the world,” said Founder and President Betsy Johnson. “We are so excited to share our business with the Sharks and hope they can see how strong our business is and that it’s a great investment.”
“It’s taken months of hard work and we are so excited to share SwimZip with America,” said Founder and VP Berry Wanless. “We’re proud of the growth of SwimZip, and we went to the Sharks on Shark Tank because we believe that they can help us grow our business with their experience and contacts.”
Betsy and Berry are both parents and know the pains of lathering on sunscreen every two hours while at the beach, pool, or even park. The siblings behind SwimZip grew up in Topeka, Kansas attending Topeka Collegiate and Topeka High School and moved out of state for college attending: University of Puget Sound and Denison University (respectively). The entrepreneurs launched SwimZip in 2010 after navigating careers in the corporate world. So being entrepreneurs is totally new to them. Inspired by skin cancer and fair skinned children – the siblings are on a mission to keep children protective from the suns harmful rays and make lives easier for parents. “Sun protection can be so hard,” said Johnson, “but we are trying to make our kids rash guards easy to put on! It is a win-win for caretakers and kids!”
Today, SwimZip delights families across the country by making time at the beach and pool fun! No parents fighting to apply sunscreen, just zip on their SwimZip swimsuit and enjoy fun filled day and no sunburns!
The episode featuring the siblings behind SwimZip – Betsy and Berry – will air Friday, January 24th at 9pm EST on ABC.
