When you live in the mountains, you make driving to Fresno a day trip. Fresno is about an hour away from my house. So when I set up the appointment to have my car worked on, I also planned a trip to Costco and WinCo (making the most of my trip). Obviously, I would have to have lunch somewhere. I opened the Restaurant.com app to see what was open around the Riverpark area. When you go to the map view (vs. the list) you can see where the restaurants are located. I found that Country Waffles was super close to where I was… so I check the times and purchased a $10 off $20 gift certificate. The app is great for finding local restaurants, but I highly encourage you to go to the location before you purchase your gift certificate. You may have to sign into the app several times because the app doesn’t remember your password (or at least it doesn’t remember mine). When using the app, just let your waitress/waiter know when you are seating that you have a Restaurant.com gift certificate. They will be able to get the conformation number off your phone to apply the discount to your meal.
I was getting hungry after shopping at Costco and WinCo (I’m sure you can imagine). Some good country cooking was just what I needed to fuel me up to get me back up the hill!
Country Waffles is located across the street from Riverpark (near Barnes & Noble). They are open for breakfast and lunch (closing at 2:00 daily). I arrived just in time for lunch!
Country Waffles definitely has a home-town feel to it. It’s a small town restaurant located in the middle of a big city. They waitresses seemed to know everyone and ran the place like it was their second home.
The menu offered a wonderful selection of breakfast items, as well as some tasty lunch plates. I was torn between eating breakfast for lunch or going with one of their lunch items. I decided to get a tri-tip sandwich (and ordered a pulled-pork sandwich to take home to my husband).
The tri-tip sandwich had nice thick slices that melted in my mouth. Loved the thickness of the dipping sauce. Normally the sauces I have had before have been thin and watery. This was thick and absorbed well into the bread and meat.
I ate the entire sandwich and most of the fries before heading home. My husband was thrilled to see that I didn’t forget about him. He ate his sandwich for dinner!
If you are in the Fresno area, and craving a “home cooked” meal… stop by Country Waffles!
