Yesterday my daughter had a play date and I decided we should do a holiday craft. When my husband was cleaning his father’s estate, he found thousands of Popsicle sticks. I brought them home and we made snowmen!
What you need (per ornament):
- 11 Popsicle sticks
- Tacky glue and/or glue gun
- White, black and orange paint & paint brushes
- 2 googly eyes
- 1 gold bell
- 3 sparkly pom poms
- Mod Podge
- Extra fine glitter
Line up 8 Popsicle sticks side-by-side. Take 2 Popsicle sticks — (use the Tacky glue) 1 will go diagonally across the back, break the second one in half to glue on the top and the bottom.
Allow the glue to dry, then flip over so you can start painting. You will want to paint 3/4 of the Popsicle sticks white.
Allow the white to dry, then paint the rest black. Don’t forget to paint the edges too!
Take your last Popsicle stick and paint it black. This will be the brim of the top hat!
Allow the paint to dry then use the Tacky glue to glue the “brim” onto the hat.
Now you can paint on an orange “carrot” nose (AKA: triangle) and black coal for a mouth/smile (use the back of the paint brush to make dots).
Now you can either allow the paint to dry and paint the entire project with Mod Podge mixed with extra fine glitter OR glue on the eyes. We chose to just add glitter to the top hat, so our next step was to glue on the eyes.
To make the glitter Mod Podge, use a small container to mix the extra fine glitter and Mod Podge together. You can use as much glitter as you wish. Paint just the top hat to give it an extra sparkle.
You don’t have to wait for the Mod Podge to dry unless you have time (we were on a time crunch because the play date was almost over). Use the tacky glue to glue on a gold bell and 1-3 sparkly pom poms.
Once everything is dry you can use a glue gun to attach a ribbon so you can hang this adorable snowman onto your tree or any where you wish!
