Pete has a friend and protector in the huge green dragon Elliot. But when they are discovered in the forest, Pete must find a way to protect Elliot in return. A boy and his dragon find friendship, adventure, and a place to belong in this junior novel based on the upcoming Walt Disney Studios film, Pete’s Dragon. PETE’S DRAGON is flying into theaters everywhere next Friday…August 12th.
Logan is going into 3rd grade this year. He is not a huge fan of reading, but I made a deal with him. If he reads one page I will read the other page and we will switch off like this. What I like about this junior novel is that the chapters are short.
How did Pete wind up in the forest…alone? The first and second chapters explains just that. At the young age of 5, Pete is left alone in the forest (you will have to read the book to find out why) and meets up with a HUGE dragon. Pete has never seen a dragon before and at first is frightened, but after looking into his eyes the creature seemed caring. He decides to trust the dragon. For 6 years, Pete and Elliott cared for each other. If there was trouble, Pete could always count on Elliott’s help. One day, Pete is discovered by a group of people and taken back to town. They didn’t know how a young boy could survive in the forest alone. But Pete wasn’t alone…he had Elliott.
This is a great story for kids in 3rd to 7th grade (ages 8-12 years old). I highly recommend reading this book before seeing the movie next week!
