While on my press event in L.A., not only did I get a sneak peek at the upcoming animated movie Big Hero 6, but I also got to see the newest Disney Animated Short: FEAST. (This was only the 5 or 6 time this short has been played for an audience…I felt extremely special to get this sneak peek.)
Did you know that anyone who works for Disney Animation can pitch ideas for the shorts program? How cool it that! Disney knows that everyone on their team is creative and wants to hear from anyone who has an idea. You never know where the next BIG idea is going to come from.
The pitch for FEAST was actually inspired by Patrick Osborne photos he took of the food he ate. As we all know, over time our eating habits change. Patrick spoke with us about his short and how his photos transpired into the story of a dog named Winston.
FEAST a new short from first-time director Patrick Osborne (head of animation for “Paperman”) and Walt Disney Animation Studios, is the story of one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share.
The Disney Animation team brought dogs into the studio so the animators could get inspired. They watched how the dogs moved, played, sat, etc.
Fun Fact: The wedding dress Kirby wears is fashioned after Patrick Osborne’s wife’s wedding dress!
It took 1 year and 1 month from beginning to end to complete this short. A lot of people touched this film, but didn’t stay long due to other features being filmed. Over the course of 3 weeks, there were 15 animators!
FEAST will be the short proceeding Big Hero 6!
BIG HERO 6 opens in theaters everywhere on November 7th!
Disclosure: Disney invited me on this press trip and paid for all of my expenses (except travel). All opinions are always 100% my own and honest.
