On August 6th, Shout! Factory in collaboration with Hasbro Studios will be releasing MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy!!
I was fortunate to receive an early copy of the DVD for my kids to review. Both Kira and Logan have been enjoying My Little Pony episodes on Netflix… so when a package arrived with the new My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, my kids couldn’t wait to watch it!
My Little Pony: Equestria Girls is about Twilight Sparkle’s adventure to retrieve her crown. The show begins where Sunset Shimmer steals Twilight Sparkle’s crown from the Crystal Empire. Twilight pursues her into an alternate world…a world where she magically has transformed into a teenage girl!
Before she can return to Equestria, Twilight must learn how to fit into this strange, new world. In order to regain her crown, she must defeat Sunset Shimmer in a competition to become crowned Princess of the Fall Formal at Canterlot High.
However, she is not alone! Spike also crossed over with her (and he turned into a dog). Then she meets five teenage girls who happen to have similar features and personalities as a certain group of ponies back home (her best pony friends).
Kira and Logan enjoyed there new movie. They even asked to watch it again as soon as it was over. It is good show with quality themes highlighted: friendship and doing the right thing. My only concern was the “demon” that Sunset Shimmer turns into at the end of the movie. This portion of the film might be too scary for younger viewers (however, my kids didn’t even flinch…ages 4 and 5…and I don’t let them watch “scary” shows).
DVD Bonus Features:
- Through The Mirror Of Equestria Girls
- Karaoke Songs
- Pony-fy Yourself
