Have you ever looked at the ingredients on the back of your boxed or bagged food items? Ever wonder what the heck some of the long words mean? Take a moment to open up your pantry and grab your favorite boxed or bagged snack/food item. Let’s see if you know what you are eating! Can you name the natural source of each ingredient? Do you know what you are really eating? Can you pronounce the ingredients on the label?
Here are the ingredients in one of my families favorite boxed breakfast items… let’s see if you can guess what it is:
- whole grain rolled oats
- calcium carbonate
- natural flavors
- guar gum
- caramel color
- maple sugar
- brown sugar
- ferric phosphate
- pyridoxine hydrochloride
- vitamin a palmitate
- thiamin mononitrate
- folic acid
Honestly, I never looked at the back until today… and I am not sure what some of those ingredients are… pyridoxine hydrochloride…WHAT?!?! So, can you guess what food item these ingredients are for? If you can’t is Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal. I love instant oatmeal… but I think I will switch to regular oatmeal and just add a bit of brown sugar.
What about those chips you purchased the other day? Do you know what you are putting into your mouth? How would you like a healthy alternative to chips? Chips that you can actually read and understand each ingredient that is in the food you are about to eat! Have you tried Simply7? They just recently released a few new flavors of Pomegranate Chips, Lentil Chips and Hummus Chips.
The Simply7 Story:
The idea behind Simply7 was born because many of my favorite foods did not pass this test (and I suspect that many of yours don’t either). I decided to create a company that makes sure that every ingredient in our products is not only natural but is SIMPLE. You should be able to identify the raw vegetable, fruit, grain, or legume the ingredients in our products come from. I also wanted to show people that simple ingredients are actually exceptionally delicious.
I don’t have a place in my pantry for healthy products that taste like cardboard, so I don’t expect you to have to sacrifice taste either. We took these principles and established the 7 core standards that our company stands behind. Hence, our Simply7 name.
At first I didn’t know if I would like these chips. I am all for a healthy snack… but I want a chip to taste like a chip. My entire family was pleasantly surprised with the delicious flavors of these simply delicious chips. Out of the 3 types of chips, hummus were our favorite. There wasn’t a flavor we didn’t love!
Kira was the first to test out Simply7 chips. I opened up the bag of Hummus Chips: Sea Salt. If you are a fan of Sea Salt, then you will be amazed with the kick of the hummus flavor! It gives the chips a unique, richer taste and a more enjoyable snacking experience. This bag was our favorite out of all the chips… and it they went FAST! The hummus chips also come in Roasted Red Pepper (NEW), Tomato Basil and Spicy Chili Pepper.
We tried these chips alone and mixed into our meals. The Lentil Chips: Jalapeno (NEW) were a great addition to our BBQ Chicken Salad. It’s spicy flavor was a perfect balance to our sweet BBQ and Ranch dressing. This is a HOT chip, but truly mouth watering and delicious. The lentil chips also come in Sea Salt, Bruschetta and Creamy Dill. My husband loved the Bruschetta Chips the best!
The Pomegranate Chips were simply sweet and surprising. The thought of pomegranate made into a chip was intriguing. The mix with the white cheddar was a delight. All three Pomegranate Chips: White Cheddar, Black Pepper and Sea Salt are all new flavors for Simply7….and if I do say so myself, they are a wonderful addition to this amazing brand.
You can find Simply7 products at selected Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, HEB, Central Market and other grocery stores… and online.
Make sure to become a fan of Simply7 on Facebook and follow them on Twitter @simply7snacks. I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
