My mother has spent the last 6 months building our family tree. Just recently she discovered some exciting news…we are RELATED TO DANIEL BOONE!
Imagine being told down through the years that you are related to Daniel Boone, then actually finding information leading to real proof. A second cousin of the family found this information in a book: Past and Present of Jasper County, Iowa, Volume 2, by James Baird Weaver“… Mr. Sparks is a second cousin of the famous frontiersman, Daniel Boone, Many of whose sterling qualities he seems to have inherited, one being his love of the open country. God’s great out-of-doors, and although he is now seventy eight years of age, he is still a great walker. It is indeed most interesting to hear him recall reminiscences of the early days, “ye goode old tymes,” for he properly belong to a generation whose customs and manners were different from ours, in fact when most everything was different, and shall we say, better? No doubt, he will tell you so, and who is prepared to gainsay him?…”I found my second cousin on ancestry.com who had already done a lot of research on our family. To arrive at this information about Daniel Boone, my second cousin researched extensively on ancestry.com. Stephen J. Sparks (Mr. Sparks) 1833-1919 is my Great Grand Uncle. This is one of the mysteries I was hoping to find.My sister recently decided to join me in researching our family. She had been doing quite a lot by going to libraries, past family homes and work places of relatives, and visiting with relatives, etc. She is now on board with me in utilizing this fantastic resource – ancestry.com. I’m thoroughly enjoying researching our family lineage and history. I continue to tell my friends that it like a great big puzzle to solve, only this is with real people.
