My kids love toys…but there are so many different toys on the market today it’s hard to find ones that are worth the money, quality, educational, and fun. I am so excited to have been chosen as a Educational Toys Planet Reviewer! Now I can try before I buy…and let you know what’s good and what’s a dud!
When the mail carrier dropped off the package from Educational Toys Planet, my kids couldn’t wait to rip into the box. When the box was finally opened and I saw a fish…my immediate thought was oh great I get to review a lame fish that probably talks. I was sent Catch of the Day – Toy Fishing Rod to review (retail value $24.97; currently on sale for $19.97). Okay, so looks can be deceiving! This toy is not a talking fish…it’s a toy fishing rod and fish that you can play with in the tub, pool…or even running around the house.
Enjoy fishing fun without leaving your house with the Catch of the Day – Toys Fishing Rod by Small World Toys! Catching fish is easy with this unique pretend play toy. The toy rubbery bass fish that comes with this kids fishing set can be put in the bathtub, swimming pool, small water tub, or right on the floor of your playroom. Just bait your hook, drop the line, and get ready for a bite. The Catch of the Day – Toy Fishing Rod includes a toy fishing rod, and 2 magnetic lures that attach to the battery-powered fish’s mouth and hook your catch. Catch of the Day – Toy Fishing Rod from Educational Toys Planet is great for children to play with indoors or in the pool or in the backyard.
My son is 3 1/2 and let me tell you his eyes glowed with excitement. I didn’t even know he liked fish (he has been obsessed with trains since he was 18 months old…and only recently found a love for pirates, ships, etc.). He asked me all about the new toy…”What is it? Can I play with the fish? Can I take a bath and play with my new toy?” Needless to say…Logan was in the bath catching fish within an hour of receiving this new toy.
He loved watching the fish swim around the tub (I can just envision the fish running ramped in our spa this summer). Kira wasn’t so hip to the fish taking over the tub…but after a while she too wanted to catch a fish! It’s easy to use & play! First select which bait you want to use (you are given a magnetic worm and fish bait). Then turn on the fish (the fish requires 2 AA batteries – not included). NOTE to parents, make sure you put the cover back on correctly…I had my teenage babysitter insert the batteries only to find out after the bath that she put the cover on backwards…luckily it didn’t damage the toy. Next, you pull on the trigger to release the line (this was the hardest part for Logan to learn how to do…but after a few baths and running around the house catching fish he is quite the fisherman). Once the line is released, your little fisherman can try to catch the fish. When the fish “bites” the hook, the fish begins to shake and wiggle like a real fish! Too much fun!
Logan thinks fishing out of the water is just as fun! He pretends he is a pirate catching fish for his crew. Oh yes…he was even sitting in the laundry bin catching fish (AKA: pirate ship)!
What makes this toy an “educational” toy? Well, it is very realistic the way is wriggles around once caught on the line, promotes manual dexterity, develops hand-eye coordination, and introduces children to the natural world around them.
So would I buy this…my husband totally would! He thinks this is the “best” toy ever! I would because I think kids 3 and up would enjoy learning how to fish. Bonus is that it’s on sale! I’m not sure if I would pay $24.97…but $19.97 is in my price range! They have a wide variety of preschool games to choose from if fishing isn’t for you.
