My friend asked me if I had any washers lying around. OF COURSE we did! It’s amazing how much “stuff” we have lying around… and most of it we don’t really know what to do with. Thanks to Theresa, we decided to upcycle these old washer into necklaces.
What you need:
- washers (any size)
- nail polish
- rubbing alcohol (optional to clean off the washer before painting)
- beads (optional)
Decide on the style of necklace (one washer, a small and large washer combined, etc.). Choose your favorite nail polish(es) and ribbon. I chose to make a necklace using a small and large washer. I painted the smaller washer pink and the larger washer a blueish-green color. I thought a brown ribbon would complement the colors well.
Paint your washers (You will want to paint the entire washer…so allow the nail polish to dry completely before painting the back of the washer. Don’t forget to touch up the sides! You can also add designs like dots or if you use nail striping tape you can add stripes.).
As soon as both washers are dry, you can loop your ribbon through the washer and tie a knot.
This is an easy activity! Perfect for Tweens and up!
Here are some of the necklaces and bracelets we made in one evening…
