Thanks to MomSelect & Disney Parks for allowing me to host a Disney Side @Home Celebration!
I was feeling creative and decided to make Mickey Mouse out of large and small OREOs. They are very easy to make. You just need wax paper, microwave save bowl, metal spoon, Wilton Red Candy Melts, Wilton Chocolate Melts, Wilton White Candy Melts (or white icing), large Oreos, and mini Oreos.
I took approximately 1/2 cup of Wilton Candy Melts (Note: I actually used orange candy melts and red food coloring because I didn’t have red candy melts) and placed them in a microwave safe bowl. Heat the melts for 30 seconds, stir, then heat again for 30 seconds (no more than 1 minute 30 seconds or it will become too thick). Stir until smooth. Dip your large Oreos halfway into the red melt. You can use a knife to spread if needed. I used a knife towards the end because they didn’t dip well.
I did set these on a cookie cooling rack, but I recommend that you just place onto the wax paper. The chocolate got stuck on the cooling rack.
Once cooled I took approximately 1/2 cup of Wilton Chocolate Melts and placed them in a microwave safe bowl. Following the same directions as I did for the red melts, I heated the melts for 30 seconds, stirred, then heated again for 30 seconds (no more than 1 minute 30 seconds or it will become too thick). Just stir until smooth, then dip the tip of the mini Oreos into the chocolate and place onto the top of your Oreos. Two mini Oreos per large Oreo to make the illusion of ears!
While the ears are cooling, you can heat up the white candy melts or use white icing to add buttons to the “pants.” I used the white candy melts and placed the melted candy into a small plastic baggie. I snipped the end of the bag and used it to place small dots on the red.
It won’t take long to cool. I did make these the night before my party, so I left them on the cookie sheet and covered them with cellophane wrap. A few minutes before the party you can plate and serve.
I hope you like this quick tutorial. Feel free to share with your friends via Pinterest, Twitter, and Facebook!
