La Jolla Winery Tours
My husband and I spent our 5th anniversary in San Diego, CA…and we were lucky to have the chance to go on a San Diego Winery Tour (thanks to La Jolla Wine Tours). We traveled to San Diego via train ride from Fullerton, so we didn’t have a car to drive to the different sights… but that didn’t stop us from walking to Sea Port Village and Horton Plaza. However, we really wanted to do something special for our anniversary, so I contacted Shira at La Jolla Wine Tours and she offered us a wonderful 6 hour tour of 3 local wineries. I’ve taken a wine tour before in Paso Robles, and truly feel it is the best way to visit the wineries ~ someone drives you around (so no drunk driving), they take you to the BEST wineries, and they feed you!
La Jolla Wine Tours offers several different tours:
The San Diego Wine Tour is an exciting journey filled with fun company, fine wine and gourmet food. You are treated like a VIP! My husband and I were the first to be picked up (Paul Anthony was a gracious host and even called us 45 minutes before picking us up)…and the tour was full with 6 couples ready to relax and have fun. Three of us were celebrating our anniversaries, and most of us were on vacation from out-of-town…but one couple was from San Diego (so even the locals love taking the tours). Paul Anthony made sure we had fun every moment of our tour, gave us details and history on our drive between wineries, played trivia with us and each couple won a wine tote…plus he had water readily available for us so we didn’t get dehydrated.
6 hr. guided wine tour includes:
TRANSPORTATION Pick up and Drop off

Our first stop on our wine tour was the Hacienda de las Rosas Winery in the heart of Old Town, San Diego (though the vineyard is in Ramona ~ owned and run by Tammy & William ~ wines named after their horses). First off I have to say they were so smart to hand us a list of the wine options. (Remember, we were not just tasting the wine…we were consuming it! Real wine connoisseurs spit out the wine…but hey I don’t want to waste good wine…I drank it all!) Each VIP got to choose 5 wines, plus they had a delicious cheese, cracker and fruit platter available to cleanse your pallet between tastes. William was a wealth of information! He gave us a history lesson while we sipped our wine.
Next we went to Cordiano Winery in Escondido, CA. This was a beautiful winery with a view to remember. Rosa & Gerardo Cordiano were fun hosts who poured us a number of wines. We all loved their slogan and wished they had a T-shirt ~ “Squeeze me, Crush me, make me Wine…” That is a T-shirt I would wear! Though we didn’t get to taste their food, we were all drooling over the aroma of garlic and wished the pizza would land on our table (however, Paul Anthony promised us a delicious meal at our last winery).
Rosa graced us with a few funny Italian jokes and premium wine to consume.
Gerardo was keeping an eye on the guys who were flirting with his wife.
Our wild group!
Our last stop was the Salerno Winery in Ramona, CA. Here we meet the owners Herman and Rose Salerno…we given some smooth wines and to-die-for pizza. I slacked in taking a photo of the hand-made pizza, but let me tell you it was worth the wait.
