Chengdu Could Not, Would Not Fall Asleep
by Barney Saltzberg
Do you have a child who has trouble falling asleep? My daughter takes forever to fall asleep at night. She tosses and turns, then will come out to the living room to tell us she can’t fall asleep (mind you it has only been 2 minutes). Join Chengdu…the young panda who could not, would not fall asleep! This a a cute story about a young panda bear that is having trouble falling asleep. Kira loved the simple illustrations and could relate with Chengdu.
High in his tree a young panda named Chengdu lies awake, even though everyone around him is quietly sleeping. He tosses and he turns. He scrunches and he squirms, until he finally finds the perfect spot.
Get your children involved with the story! I found an adorable art project on Deep Space Sparkle. I am going to try this Panda Bear Art Project with my first graders next school year. However, instead of using white, black and green chalk I am going to use oil pastels. Once my students have completed this art project I will update this post.
