Today is my daughter’s 7th birthday and she has made such a grown-up decision to donate her hair. A few years ago at a Relay for Life event she saw ladies getting their hair cut and asked why. When I told her they were donating their hair and their hair would become wigs for those in need she said she wanted to do that someday (at that time she was only 5).
When you donate your hair, you are giving a precious gift to a woman or child in need.
Kira knew that she wanted to get her hair cut and donate it, so I made her an appointment 2 days before her 7th birthday day.
Kira’s hair stylist (AKA: Mommy’s hair dresser) washed Kira’s hair and parted it into 4 ponytails. She measured the hair and it was almost 12 inches long!!!!
You would think the first cut would be the emotional cut…but it was actually the last cut that got Kira emotional. She did have a moment of regret. Two days later, she is loving her new hair cut and staying cool this summer!
Now that her hair is cut…what’s the next step? My original though was sending her hair into Lock for Love, but then I found Pantene Beautiful Lengths. It takes at least 8 to 15 ponytails to make a Pantene Beautiful Lengths wig. Kira’s beautiful blonde hair will soon be a wig for someone in need.
Once the hair was completely dried I braided it (leaving the elastic band in) and placed it into a zipper-lock bag and sealed it tightly. Tomorrow I will be putting the plastic bag with the ponytail into a padded or plastic envelope and mailing it out to Pantene.
